New Year's Resolutions

Do you like making New Year's resolutions? I do. It's a chance to look back at the previous year and set some goals for the next. But this year I've decided to do things a little differently.

Rather than have my list ready by January 1 I'm going to take the first month of the year to reflect and put the list together. This is partly because I didn't feel like making my list this week, but also because I don't want to rush it. I'm not interested in resolutions like exercising more or eating better. They're superficial rather than addressing the deeper of the issue which would be to take better care of myself. Plus they're easily broken. I want resolutions that really get to the core of something as well as things that I can actually accomplish over the course of the year. Swearing to eat kale for a whole year is unrealistic in a world where there's pizza and fries. And chocolate. And sushi. You get my drift.

I also want to delve into my curiosity and take the opportunity to try things. I'm not talking about trying something for the whole year. What if I don't end up liking it? Just the act of trying something is enough.

The other thing I like to do each year is to include some reach goals, big ones that I may not accomplish, but keep my dreams in view. I'm all about dreaming big. I find people who have the courage to do so often end up living those dreams, or at least something close to them.

What are your resolutions this year?
