Winter Solstice

Today is the official start of winter and the shortest day of the year for those in the northern hemisphere. Winter is, I believe, most people's least favorite season. Short days. Cold temperatures. Barren landscapes, or ones covered in snow. What's to like? But it's also necessary, especially in our 24/7 connected world.

In the natural world winter is a time of dormancy and hibernation. Resting. Preserving nutrients until the weather turns warmer.

It is not possible to run on full steam all the time. It leads to burnout. Periods of lower energy are necessary for peak performance. Time to take stock and evaluate. To gather strength for the next run.

My wish for you as we enter this season is for you to have the time to take a break. Not everyone has the luxury of doing so. If you do, savor it. And then, as you go back to work remember that you don't have to be a super hero. You can work while taking stock and making plans for the year. Plan some extra self care into your life. And watch for new growth.

Happy Winter Solstice!
